UTSA announces 2013 signing class on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO — Second-year head coach Amanda Lehotak announced the addition of eight student-athletes to her program on Tuesday.

Alexis Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos HS) will join the Roadrunners for the 2013 season, while Randee Crawford (Livingston, Texas/Livingston HS), Madison Kinley (Orange, Calif./Villa Park HS), Brooke McCarroll (Forney, Texas/Forney HS), Nicole Merrill (Round Rock, Texas/Cedar Ridge HS), Angelica Nino (Adelanto, Calif./Silverado HS), Taylor Oberg (College Station, Texas/A&M Consolidated HS) and Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Texas/Foster HS) will debut next spring.

“I’m very excited to add this group of student-athletes to our program,” Lehotak said. “Alexis will be able to step in and help the team this spring and I look forward to seeing Randee, Madison, Brooke, Nicole, Angelica, Taylor and Chelsea in a UTSA uniform next season. This is a very intelligent group that possess a broad skill set and will help us as we move to Conference USA next season.”

Below is a breakdown of this year’s class.


Aleixs Ramirez
INF/OF  ·  5-6  ·  San Marcos, Calif. (San Marcos HS)
Named first-team all-league and second-team All-North County all four years at San Marcos High School in San Marcos, Calif. … was the team’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010 … broke the school’s career home run record and earned the Coaches Award as a sophomore and junior.

Randee Crawford
C/INF  ·  5-9  ·  Livingston, Texas (Livingston HS)
Three-year starter and letterwinner at Livingston High School under head coach Katrina Thornton … named first-team All-District 20-4A at catcher as a freshman and junior and second team as a sophomore … also earned district Newcomer of the Year honors after collecting 30 RBIs as a freshman … as a junior in 2012 she hit .496 with 45 RBIs and recorded a .985 fielding percentage … garnered academic all-district honors three times and will be graduating in the top 10 percent of her class … also a member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Soceity.

Madison Kinley
INF  ·  5-7  ·  Villa Park, Calif. (Villa Park HS)
Three-year starter and letterwinner as a middle infielder at Villa Park High School in Villa Park, Calif. … as a freshman in 2010 she earned second-team All-Century League and Rookie of the Year honors … that season she tied for the team-lead in triples and helped her team make the postseason for the first time in 10 years … as a junior last season she led the team in doubles and was a co-captain, earned all-league honors and received a Golden Glove Award.

Brooke McCarroll
INF  ·  5-7  ·  Forney, Texas (Forney HS)
Three-year letterwinner at Forney High School … hit .392 with 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and 39 runs scored to help lead the Jackrabbits to the 4A state semifinals as a junior … earned first-team all-district honors and was named a second-team All-American by MaxPreps.com … also named Offensive Player of the Year by the Dallas Morning News ... named the district’s Most Valuable Player and to the first team as a sophomore after being named second team as a freshman.

Nicole Merrill
P  ·  5-9  ·  Round Rock, Texas (Cedar Ridge HS)
Earned a pair of letters at Cedar Ridge High School after earning a letter in her freshman campaign at Stony Point High School … as a junior last season, was named first-team All-District 16-4A and earned the team’s Defensive MVP Award … went 10-3 with a 1.53 ERA in district play and batted .436 to help give the Raiders a postseason berth … she was named team captain the last two seasons and academic all-district each of the last three years … also is a member of the National Honor Society and ranks in the top 15 percent of her class.

Angelica Nino
INF/OF  ·  5-7  ·  Adelanto, Calif. (Silverado HS)
Three-year letterwinner at Silverado High School in Victorville, Calif. … earned first-team All-Desert Sky League as a junior after garnering second-team laurels as a freshman and sophomore … named Victorville Daily Press All-Area Honorable Mention all three seasons … also named team’s Offensive MVP as a sophomore and Defensive MVP as a freshman along with a team leadership award last year … a member of the National Honor Society, she ranks 14th out of 798 students in her class and earned Academic Excellence Awards all three years.

Taylor Oberg
OF  ·  5-8  ·  College Station, Texas (A&M Consolidated HS)
Plays for head coach Rusty Erwin at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station … as a junior last season she was named the District 12-5A Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-district … also earned all-district honors as a sophomore … plays for the Texas Peppers Gold club team.

Chelsea Parker
P  ·  5-9  ·  Richmond, Texas (Foster HS)
Three-year letterwinner at Foster High School in Richmond … named first-team All-District 23-4A after going 12-1 with a 0.92 ERA in 83.1 innings as a junior … was a KHOU Memorial Herman Athlete of the Week and selected to the Vype Magazine Top Softballer list … earned second-team all-district honors as a sophomore and was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year … she is a member of the National Honor Society and an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
