Roadrunners race to eighth place at Chile Pepper Festival
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Junior Alyssa Diaz raced to a 21st-place finish and she led UTSA to a top-10 showing at Saturday's 24th annual Chile Pepper Festival.
Diaz covered the Agri Park 6,000-meter trail in 21:51.9 in the field of 341 runners to pace the Roadrunners for the fourth consecutive meet.
Fellow junior Nina Herrera was two spots behind her teammate in 21:57.2, while freshman Emily Perez (60th/22:33.6), junior Samantha Fish (65th/22:39.2) and sophomore Carly Kitts (96th/23:03.2) rounded out the squad's scorers.
UTSA placed eighth in the field of 43 teams with a combined 241 points. Arkansas easily won the team championship with 58 points and Oklahoma State (103) and SMU (155) rounded out the top three. Meanwhile, Oklahoma's Jess Engel won the individual crown by more than 12 seconds in 20:42.1.
The Roadrunners will return to action in two weeks at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Ruston, La.
