IRVING — Goalkeeper Bubba Makela was tabbed second-team all-conference and also was named to the league’s All-Freshman Team in a vote of the circuit’s 16 head coaches, Conference USA announced on Monday.

The Mukilteo, Wash., native played in all 19 matches for the Roadrunners (18 starts) this season and finished with a 1.24 goals-against average. Makela, who was the first player this season to earn C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors two times, recorded six shutouts, while her 90 saves ranked second in the league. She made a season-high 13 stops at No. 12 Texas A&M in her first-ever start back on Aug. 25 and matched that total at Louisville on Sept. 15.

She was even better in league action with a 0.96 goals-against average and 44 saves. Makela’s five shutouts in conference play ranked second in the circuit, as UTSA did not allow a goal at home in its five C-USA matches.

North Texas’ Rachel Holden took home Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year honors, while the Mean Green’s Kelsey Hodges was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Colorado College's Geoff Bennett was named Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Tigers to the regular season title.
