Rojas earns All-Western Athletic Conference accolades on Wednesday
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Junior forward Maria Jose Rojas was named second-team All-Western Athletic Conference, as selected by the league’s nine head coaches on Wednesday.
The Santiago, Chile, native led UTSA with 11 points on four goals and three assists this past season. Rojas started 15 of the Roadrunners' 17 contests and logged 1,377 minutes on the pitch. She paced the team with a pair of game-winning goals, which came against Eastern Michigan (Aug. 31) and New Mexico State (Oc. 21). Rojas also led the squad with 40 shots and 23 shots on goal.
Denver’s Kristen Hamilton took home Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Utah State’s Natalie Norris was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, Lynsey Curry of Texas State was named Freshman of the Year and Denver’s Jeff Hooker was selected as Coach of the Year after leading the Pioneers to a share of the regular season title.
