UTSA to face Miami (Fla.) on Friday night
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to snap a three-match losing streak and gain momentum before the start of Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play when it travels to Miami (Fla.) for a 6 p.m. (CT) matchup on Friday.
The Roadrunners (1-6) will be playing their fourth contest this month after last Friday’s game at Sam Houston State was washed out. Junior Maria Jose Rojas, who leads the squad with four points on a goal and two assists, picked up a helper in UTSA’s 2-1 defeat at Houston on Sept. 16. That assist helped sophomore Charlotte Husoe score the first goal of her career, which gave the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead. Freshman goalie Katarina Pus has recorded at least five saves in all but two contests this season and her 5.43 stops per match rank second in the WAC.
Miami (4-4-1) enters the match on a two-game skid of its own after dropping Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matches to Wake Forest and No. 2 Duke. Both contests were decided by one goal and it took the ACC preseason favorite Blue Devils overtime to top the Hurricanes. Ali Brennan and Tina Romagnuolo lead the offense with six points apiece on a pair of goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Emily Lillard has spent the most time between the pipes for Miami this season and the sophomore is allowing just 0.94 goals per game.
UTSA and Miami will be meeting for the first time and it also will be the Roadrunners’ first-ever contest against a member of the ACC.
