UTSA, TCU play to 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon
SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Anissa Munson put UTSA on the board in the 23rd minute, but TCU was able to salvage a 1-1 tie with a second-half goal in Friday’s exhibition match at the Rec Sports Complex.
Both defenses limited the scoring chances in the opening period before the Helotes native took a feed from classmate Liv Nyhegn and slipped past the Horned Frogs back line for a one-on-one shot against goalie Kasey O’Brien. Munson’s blast, one of 11 shots for the Roadrunners on the day, found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
UTSA limited the Horned Frogs, who will play in the Big 12 Conference this fall, to just four shots in the opening frame and freshman goalkeeper Katarina Pus got the start and logged a pair of saves in 31 minutes of action between the pipes.
However, the lead did not stand. TCU tied the match on Elise Kensinger’s goal from Carly Bowen in the 76th minute.
Neither squad found the back of the net over the final 14 minutes, as the game ended in a draw without an extra period of play.
The Roadrunners kick off their regular season next Friday, Aug. 17, at Houston Baptist. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
