NATCHITOCHES, La. — Top-seeded Stephen F. Austin scored a goal in both halves to earn a 2-0 victory against No. 4 UTSA in the Southland Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday night.
The Roadrunners finish the campaign at 9-9-2, while the Ladyjacks improved to 15-2-1 with their 13th consecutive victory. SFA will second-seeded Texas State in Sunday's championship match.
The Ladyjacks opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Melissa Gaudet's free kick from 25 yards out got past sophomore goalie Danielle Snyder. The strike to the upper left corner of the goal gave Stephen F. Austin a lead it would not relinquish.
UTSA had limited opportunities in the opening stanza and SFA took a 1-0 edge into the locker room.
The advantage increased to two when Southland Player of the Year Kylie Louw found Janae Lee for a goal in the 68th minute.
The Roadrunners managed four shots in the second half, but they could not find the back of the net.
Snyder recorded five saves but fell to 7-2-2 on the season.
