SAN ANTONIO — UTSA scored three goals in the second half, including a pair from freshman Liv Nyhegn, to defeat McNeese State 3-0 in the team's home finale on Sunday.
Nyhegn put the Roadrunners (7-7-2, 4-2-1 SLC) on top in the 53rd minute with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Following a corner kick, senior Brittany Wilson deflected the ball to Nyhegn, who put it past goalie Cassandra Read.
UTSA turned up its offense and continued keep the Cowgirls (7-10, 2-5 SLC) away from sophomore goalie Danielle Snyder.
The lead grew to 2-0 in the 67th minute when Nyhegn found the back of the net again to record her second multi-goal game of the season. It once again came after a corner kick and deflection near the goal. Sophomore Kimber Chudej’s header was initially blocked by Read, but Nyhegn was in position to put the rebound in for her eighth strike of the campaign.
Two minutes later, Chudej put the game away with a high-arcing shot over Read’s head. Her first goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Valentina Lefort and freshman Anissa Munson.
Meanwhile, UTSA's defense allowed just six shots for the match and Snyder recorded four saves en route to her third shutout of the fall. She improved to 5-0-2 with the victory.
The Roadrunners will conclude the regular season next weekend with matches at Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana.
