CONWAY, Ark. — UTSA got goals from sophomores Maria Jose Rojas and Alex Saraceno for a 2-1 victory at Central Arkansas on Friday.
The Roadrunners (5-7-1, 2-2 SLC) jumped out to an early lead thanks to Rojas, who scored in the 17th minute for her team-leading sixth winner of the season. Following feeds from junior Lindsay South and sophomore Laylla da Cruz, Rojas placed her shot in the corner of the net and beat goal keeper Lyndzey Goff for the winner.
UTSA continued to press the Bears with five corner kicks in the opening half, but it could not convert and the Birds took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Saraceno pushed the lead to two with a 20-yard strike past Goff in the 49th minute for her first goal of the fall.
The score proved to be key, as Kristin Pollard cut the advantage in half a mere 30 seconds later with her second goal of the season.
However, that was all the offense Central Arkansas (5-7-1, 1-3 SLC) could muster and UTSA evened its Southland record with the one-goal win.
The Roadrunners outshot the Bears, 20-11, and kept the ball away from sophomore goalie Danielle Snyder, who recorded three saves in moving to 3-0-1 on the campaign.
UTSA improved to 6-0 all-time against the Bears.
The Roadrunners will look continue their winning ways at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Northwestern State (7-7, 1-3 SLC).
