SAN MARCOS — Freshman Liv Nyhegn’s goal in the 12th minute gave UTSA an early 1-0 lead, but I-35 rival Texas State rallied for three unanswered goals en route to a 3-1 victory on Sunday.

Nyhegn’s fifth goal of the season came off a rebound from the post and turned out to be the only offense for the Roadrunners (4-7-1, 1-2 SLC) on a rainy afternoon at Bobcats Soccer Complex. Senior Jodi Leroy picked up her second assist of the campaign on the play and currently sits third on the squad with eight points (three goals/two assists).

However, the lead was short-lived, as Felicia Leask recorded the first of her two winners in the 18th minute to tie the score.

The Bobcats (7-5, 2-1 SLC) quickly grabbed the advantage for good on Taylor Kelley’s strike from outside the penalty box that sailed over the head of junior goalie Dacia Webb three minutes later.

After being outshot in the opening period, UTSA matched the Bobcats in the second stanza, but they were unable to come up with the equalizer.

Leask’s second goal came in the 82nd minute and clinched the win for Texas State.

A physical match from the start, the teams combined for 20 fouls and four yellow cards, three of which were charged to Texas State.

UTSA will look to even their Southland record on Friday, Oct. 14, when it travels to Conway, Ark., for a 4 p.m. match at Central Arkansas (5-6-1, 1-2 SLC).
