SAN ANTONIO — No. 3 seed UTSA will look to avenge one of its two Southland Conference regular season losses on Friday evening when it faces second-seeded Stephen F. Austin in the first semifinal of the Southland Tournament. Kickoff is schedule for 4:30 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
The Roadrunners (12-7-1) defeated No. 6 Lamar, 1-0, behind freshman Anka Grotle’s goal in the 82nd minute in the tournament’s first match on Thursday.
UTSA five days removed from a regular season-ending loss at Stephen F. Austin (13-5-1), which denied the Roadrunners a share of the program’s first conference championship. The Ladyjacks scored twice in the first five minutes and went on to take a 2-0 win.
The Roadrunners are 2-2-2 all-time against Stephen F. Austin, including a 1-0 semifinal loss at the 2007 Southland Tournament.
The Ladyjacks are led by Southland Co-Player of the Year Kylie Louw and first-team selections Jordan King and Kim Kimmel. The trio has helped SFA rank in the conference’s top three in six offensive categories: points (114), shots (304), goals (41), goals per game (2.16), assists (32) and assists per game (1.68). Additionally, the Ladyjacks have held opponents to one goal per game behind the play of goalie Lacey Lee.
The winner will face the victor of Friday’s other semifinal matchup between top seed Southeastern Louisiana and No. 4 Texas State in Sunday's 1 p.m. championship match.
