BEAUMONT — The UTSA women's soccer team improved to 9-5-1 overall and 4-0-1 in Southland Conference play with a 1-0 win at Lamar on Sunday.

UTSA continued its best start in program history by handing the Lady Cardinals (4-9-2, 2-3-1 SLC) their first home defeat since a 1-0 setback to Louisiana Tech on Aug. 22.

The Roadrunners benefitted from a Lady Cardinals miscue in the 102nd minute when the ball went past goalie Jennifer Gibbs from one of her teammates. The own goal in sudden-death overtime ended the match and kept UTSA unbeaten in Southland play.

Sophomore goalie Dacia Webb went the distance for the Roadrunners, collected her ninth career shutout and overtook Rachel Francis for the school's all-time record.

UTSA, pushed to overtime for the third time in its last four matches, is unbeaten (2-0-1) in extra time this fall.

The Birds return home to face Southeastern Louisiana (10-2-3, 3-1-1 SLC) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. Laurel Dierking, Dillon, Jenna Pawelek, Kim Selman and Chelsea Zimmerman will be honored as part of Senior Night festivities prior to the match.
