SAN ANTONIO — UTSA got a pair of first-half goals and held Louisiana Tech scoreless to finish the season unbeaten in Conference USA home matches with a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Happy Orere-Amadu and Anissa Munson each found the back of the net for the Roadrunners (5-11-2, 4-3-2 C-USA), who went 3-0-2 at home during league play and did not allow a goal against a league opponent inside the friendly confines of the brand new Park West Athletics Complex this season. In fact, UTSA has not allowed a goal at home since a 2-0 setback to Samford on Sept. 8, which covers a span of 438 minutes.
Reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week Bubba Makela made six saves and collected her sixth shutout of the season. She now is tied for tops in the conference with five shutouts in C-USA matches.
Meanwhile, Annabel Prior led the Lady Techsters (9-9-1, 4-5 C-USA) with four shots and goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke tallied nine saves in the loss.
After honoring senior Laylla da Cruz prior to the start of the contest, UTSA quickly jumped ahead on Orere-Amadu’s third goal of the fall.
In the 11th minute, Munson threaded the needle with a pass that split the defense and set up the junior with a one-on-one opportunity. Orere-Amadu then put the Roadrunners ahead for good with a low shot that beat Updyke to her right.
Nearly 14 minutes later, it was Munson who picked up a winner with the help of Charlotte Husoe. Husoe sent a shot from about 30 yards out that hit the crossbar and came right to Munson. The Helotes native quickly controlled the ball and doubled the Roadrunners’ lead with her third goal of the season.
That proved to be plenty of offense for UTSA, which outshot the visitors, 20-16.
The Roadrunners will wrap up regular-season play with a 7 p.m. contest at Tulsa (9-6-3, 3-3-3 C-USA) on Thursday, Oct. 31.
