SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel west for a matchup at UTEP on Friday night before closing out the home portion of its schedule on Sunday against Louisiana Tech. The Roadrunners and Miners will meet at 8 p.m. (CT) on Friday, while the Birds and Lady Techsters will kick off at 1 p.m. two days later.

The Roadrunners (4-10-2, 3-2-2 C-USA) enter the weekend in a tie for fourth place in the Conference USA West Division standings. The Birds are coming off a successful weekend with a 3-0 victory against Southern Miss and a tie against league-leading Colorado College. The tie snapped the Tigers’ nine-match winning streak and gave the UTSA defense a total of 200 scoreless minutes of work for the weekend. Goalie Bubba Makela picked up her second C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor after recording nine saves in the contests, including seven against Colorado College. The freshman has helped the Roadrunners stay unbeaten at home in conference action (2-0-2) with a 0.95 goals-against average in league play.

The Miners (10-4-3, 3-2-2 C-USA) split a pair of matches on the road last week with a 3-0 setback at Louisiana Tech before a 1-0 triumph at Tulsa. Azia Nicholson leads the team and ranks third in the circuit with 20 points on nine goals and two assists, while Jade Babcock owns three winners and five assists on the campaign. In goal, Sarah Dilling has started all 17 matches and has a 1.11 goals-against average.

Meanwhile, the Lady Techsters (10-6-1, 4-3 C-USA) are on the road to face Colorado College before traveling to the Alamo City. The squad ranks fifth in the conference with 79 points, while its 30 goals rank fourth. Kathryn Sloan leads the team and sits tied for eighth in the league with 15 points on seven goals and an assist. Brittany Beddow’s 10 points are second on the squad and her four assists are tied for ninth in the conference. Caitlin Updyke has made 14 starts in goal with six shutouts, including four in league play, and owns a 1.21 goals-against average.

UTEP has a 1-0-1 lead in the series against UTSA. The Miners defeated the Roadrunners 4-0 on Sept. 4, 2006, in El Paso and the teams played to a 3-3 draw in their last meeting on Sept. 18, 2011, in San Antonio. Louisiana Tech won its only meeting with the Birds on Oct. 14 last season (1-0 OT).
