Roadrunners to close non-conference slate on Sunday night at Texas
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule at 7 p.m. on Sunday night when it travels to Austin for a matchup with Texas at Mike A. Meyers Stadium.
The Roadrunners (1-7) will look to snap a five-match losing streak and record their first-ever win against the Longhorns. UTSA is coming off a pair of narrow 1-0 defeats last weekend at Kentucky and Louisville and the Birds will face their second Big 12 Conference opponent this season (Baylor on Aug. 23).
Brianna Livecchi, Anissa Munson and Taylor Wingerden lead the offense with one goal apiece, while Happy Orere-Amadu’s 20 shots pace the team. Bubba Makela has started the last seven matches in goal and she has made 44 saves.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns (5-3-1) have won four of their last five matches, including a 3-0 win against Texas State on Friday. Brooke Gilbert and Kelsey Shimmick lead Texas, which was picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 this season, with three goals each. Preseason all-conference goalie Abby Smith has allowed just eight goals (0.87 per match) and collected 27 saves.
Texas leads the all-time series 4-0, including a 2-0 triumph in the last meeting on Sept. 2, 2011.
