UTSA swept by New Mexico State on Thursday night
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — UTSA committed a season-high 32 attack errors and New Mexico State took advantage by sweeping the Roadrunners by scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-21 on Thursday night at the Pan American Center.
UTSA (12-6, 5-3 WAC) was limited to a .050 hitting percentage, while the Aggies (13-5, 7-1 WAC) posted 12 total blocks.
Senior outside hitter Whitney Walls was the only Roadrunner in double figures on the attack with 10 kills. Meanwhile, junior setter Brandy Huskey tallied 22 assists and freshman defensive specialist Annie Kunes collected a match-high 18 digs.
Meredith Hays led New Mexico State with 11 winners, while Ciara Brown handed out 18 helpers.
The Birds pulled even 24-all in the opening set before New Mexico State posted the next two points to claim the early advantage.
UTSA opened a 7-1 lead in the second stanza, but the Aggies stormed back to win the panel by five points.
New Mexico State carried the momentum into the final frame and raced out to a 7-0 advantage. The Roadrunners only were able to get as close as three before the Aggies pulled away for the four-point victory.
UTSA continues its season-long four-match road trip at 2 p.m. (CT) on Saturday at Denver (9-9, 3-5 WAC).
