UTSA to square off with Louisiana Tech on Saturday evening
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Ruston, La., for a 6 p.m. tilt at Louisiana Tech.
The Roadrunners (11-8, 2-4 C-USA), who have dropped their last two outings, will continue to rely on its veteran backcourt of Kamra King and Miki Turner. The pair leads the team in scoring with averages of 14.9 and 9.9 points per game, respectively. The duo has been especially effective over the final two minutes of regulation with King connecting on 19-of-25 (76 percent) free throw attempts while Turner has gone 13-for-16 (81 percent). The duo has accounted for 58 of UTSA’s 109 points (53 percent) during the closing stretch.
Louisiana Tech (6-13, 1-5 C-USA) picked up its first Conference USA victory of the season this past week in a 64-63 triumph against Florida Atlantic. Junior forward Whitney Frazier is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Lady Techsters entering the game averaging 15.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest.
The contest will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in the past two seasons after three meetings last season in the Western Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners took the first meeting of the season in Ruston, 51-50, before the Lady Techsters got the better of the Birds in San Antonio, 79-73, and again in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament first round, 85-58.
