Roadrunners announce 2012-13 women’s basketball schedule on Tuesday
SAN ANTONIO — Sixteen home contests, the annual UTSA Thanksgiving Classic and a full slate of 18 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) games highlight the 2012-13 UTSA women’s basketball schedule that was released by head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair on Tuesday.
“I’m excited to watch our team take on the challenges that this schedule presents,” said Rippetoe-Blair, who is in her 13th season. “Nonconference road games against the likes of Houston, Rice and TCU, along with home dates with San Francisco and UNLV provide a tough test that will help prepare us for WAC play. We have an experienced group coming back and some talented newcomers that I know are ready to get back on the court.”
The Roadrunners will open the campaign on Nov. 3 when they face McMurry in the squad’s lone exhibition game.
The regular season tips off less than a week later with three consecutive home contests. In fact, the Birds will play five of their first six games at the Convocation Center.
UTSA will welcome Texas-Pan American (Nov. 9), Concordia Texas (Nov. 12) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 16) to the Alamo City before its first road game, which will be on Nov. 18 at Wichita State.
After a date with the Shockers, the Roadrunners return home for the annual UTSA Thanksgiving Classic, which will feature matchups against Austin Peay (Nov. 23) and Texas Southern (Nov. 24).
The non-conference portion of the schedule will close with road contests against a trio of in-state foes in Houston (Nov. 27), TCU (Dec. 5) and Rice (Dec. 20), along with a pair of home games against San Francisco (Dec. 2) and UNLV (Dec. 8).
UTSA will begin its lone season in the WAC on Dec. 29 when it travels to Utah State and that will be followed by a New Year’s Eve matchup at San Jose State two days later. The Roadrunners’ first conference home games are against New Mexico State and Denver on Jan. 3 and Jan. 5, respectively.
Following its matchup with the Pioneers, the Roadrunners will begin a three-game stretch away from the Alamo City at UT Arlington (Jan. 10), Louisiana Tech (Jan. 12) and I-35 rival Texas State (Jan. 19).
Contests at Denver (Jan. 31), New Mexico State (Feb. 2), Idaho (Feb. 28) and Seattle (March 2) conclude the road slate.
Other home dates this winter include tilts against Seattle (Jan. 24), Idaho (Jan. 26), Louisiana Tech (Feb. 7), UT Arlington (Feb. 9), Texas State (Feb. 16), San Jose State (March 7) and Utah State (March 9).
All 10 league members will participate in the WAC Tournament, which is scheduled to run from March 12-16 in Las Vegas.
