FRISCO The West Division Champion UTSA women’s basketball team will enter the 2011 State Farm Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed and face fifth-seeded Sam Houston State at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The three-day event will take place at the Merrell Center in Katy.

The Roadrunners improved to 15-14 overall with a 77-53 win against UT Arlington in their regular season finale on Saturday. They claimed their second division crown in the last three seasons via a tiebreaker over the Bearkats.

Sam Houston State will enter the tournament at 17-13 overalll after defeating Texas State, 93-79.

The two teams split the season series with UTSA dropping a 62-53 decision on Jan. 8 in Huntsville before picking up a 75-66 victory in the Alamo City three weeks later.

The winner will play the either Southland Regular Season Champion McNeese State or eighth-seeded Southeastern Louisiana, who play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, in the first semifinal at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The other side of the bracket includes No. 2 Lamar versus No. 7 Northwestern State (noon) and No. 3 Central Arkansas and No. 6 Stephen F. Austin (2:30 p.m.). That semifinal is slated for 12 p.m. on Thursday.

This marks the 11th consecutive appearance for UTSA in the conference's postseason tournament, all of which have come under the direction of head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair.

All opening-round games can be seen for free on SLC NOW at, while the semifinals and finals will be broadcast on the Southland Conference Television Network (KCWX digital channel 2.2 in San Antonio), ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.
