Miki Turner honored with Conference USA Spirit of Service Award
IRVING — Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Wednesday that UTSA senior women's basketball player Miki Turner was one of 16 individuals to be awarded the league's Winter Conference USA Spirit of Service Award.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing the winter sports of men's and women's basketball, women's swimming & diving and men's and women's indoor track & field.
Turner, a senior from Houston, just completed her eligibility on the basketball court. She maintains a 3.27 GPA in kinesiology. The community service initiatives taken on by Turner and a host of her teammates include Campus Move in (August), Ava’s Wish 5K (October), Rowdy Readers (throughout the year), FTK Fashion Show supporting kids with brain tumors (November) and she also is scheduled to participate in the FTK Dance-a-Thon (April).
Roadrunners senior quarterback Eric Soza received the Fall C-USA Spirit of Service Award.
