COLLEGE STATION — Nathan Collier was victorious in the mile for the second time in as many meets this season and Andrew Akens won the shot put to lead the UTSA men's track & field team at this weekend's Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational.

Collier raced to a personal-best time of 4:13.86 to top the field of 21 distance runners. The Pottsboro native held off Texas A&M's Isaac Spencer by nearly a half second in the event's opening heat and it was an improvement of seven tenths of a second from his winning time at last month's Texas A&M Reveille Invitational. It marked the third victory of his career at the distance, all of which have come at Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium.

Meanwhile, Akens registered his third consecutive top-two performance to open the campaign with his measurement of 57-4 ¼ (17.48m). The Mesquite native won the event on his sixth and final put of the day and he tied Texas State's Darian Brown for the top spot in the 14-man field.

The Roadrunners also saw Taylor Reed earn a silver medal at the meet, as he finished second in the pole vault with his season-best clearance of 16-5 ½ (5.02m).

UTSA also received a podium finish from its third-place distance medley relay on Friday night. The quartet of Mike Medrano, Eric Gosset, Brady Hand and Collier passed the baton in a season-best 10:13.84, which now leads the Conference USA standings.

The Roadrunners will be back in action in two weeks at the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multis. The two-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Friday, Jan. 31, in Houston.
