SEATTLE, Wash. — The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Wednesday that McKenzie Adams has been named an NCAA Division I third-team All-American. The third-team honor is the first in program history.

An honorable mention All-America selection a year ago, Adams led UTSA to its third-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this fall, as the Roadrunners won both the Conference USA Regular Season and Tournament titles. The Schertz native leads the nation with an average of 5.78 kills per set and is second nationally with an average of 6.23 points per set. The senior was required to be more than the Roadrunners' top attacker as a six-rotation player and she averaged 3.57 digs per set. Adams accumulated 24 double-doubles during her senior campaign and is one of only eight active players to top the 1,600 kill/1,100 dig mark in her career.

Adams was honored six times with the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week Award and she also picked up one Defensive Player of the Week Award becoming the first player in C-USA history to win both awards in the same week on Sept. 16 on her way to being named the conference’s Player of the Year. On Nov. 5, she became the first UTSA player to win the Sports Imports AVCA National Player of the Week Award.

The Player of the Year Award was Adams’ fourth superlative award in four different conferences, a feat that is believed to be a first in NCAA history. After being tabbed as the 2010 Atlantic Coast Freshman of the Year at Virginia, she earned 2011 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore transfer and 2012 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Adams' list of accolades also includes being one of two unanimous first-team selections to this year's All-Conference USA squads and she also was selected to the AVCA All-Southwest Region first team.

Adams' award will be presented on Friday night in Seattle, Wash., at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet in conjunction with the organization's national convention.
