SAN ANTONIO — Miki Turner led four UTSA players in double figures with 16 points and the Roadrunners defeated East Central by a score of 76-50 in Friday's exhibition game at the Convocation Center.
Kamra King added 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while juniors Ashley Spaletta and Niaga Mitchell-Cole each tallied 11. Freshman Tesha Smith pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
Trailing 15-13 midway through the first half, the Roadrunners went on a 25-6 run to close out the opening 20 minutes and they took a 41-24 lead into halftime. UTSA forced 13 Lady Tigers' turnovers in and went 16-for-21 from the foul line.
King led all scorers with 10 first-half points on 3-of-4 shooting, including one 3-pointer, and Smith corralled seven rebounds, which enabled the Birds to outrebound East Central, 28-22, in the opening half.
UTSA continued to pull away after intermission by outscoring the Lady Tigers 35-26 with Turner leading the way with 10 points. Smith continued her assault on the glass by snaring eight rebounds.
The Roadrunners will begin regular season play on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Texas.
