SAN ANTONIO — Rae Rippetoe-Blair announced Thursday that she will relinquish her duties as UTSA head women’s basketball coach effective August 15 for personal reasons.

“I would like to thank Dr. Ricardo Romo, Lynn Hickey, all of my assistant coaches and players throughout the years along with my extended Roadrunners family for all of their efforts and support during my tenure,” Rippetoe-Blair said.

Rippetoe-Blair came to UTSA in 2000 after serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Oklahoma State, for eight seasons. She guided the Roadrunners to a 216-173 record in 13 seasons, two NCAA Tournament appearances (2008-09), back-to-back Southland Conference Tournament Championships in 2008-09, and a pair of Southland Regular Season Championships (2003 & ’09). In addition, she was recognized in March by the Southland as its Coach of the Decade for her success during the 2000s.

“The women’s basketball program reached new levels of success under Rae and I’m very thankful for all of her hard work throughout the last 13 years,” Hickey said. “She will always be part of the Roadrunners family and I wish the best for her and her family in the future.”

Associate head coach Lubomyr Lichonczak will serve as interim head coach and a search for Rippetoe-Blair’s replacement will begin immediately.
