Roadrunners to host annual Strike Out Cancer event on Saturday
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball program will host its annual Strike Out Cancer event on Saturday during its 4 p.m. doubleheader against Seattle at Roadrunner Field.
The event will feature a silent auction beginning at 3 p.m. that will run through the fifth inning of the first game. Among the items to be auctioned off are a team autographed softball, T-shirt and jersey along with a package that includes four tickets and T-shirts to the May 4 home finale against UT Arlington and a luxury suite with 16 tickets to a UTSA football game during the 2013 season.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the San Antonio Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of former UTSA pitcher Hope Ortiz. Ortiz was a three-year letterwinner for the Roadrunners’ back-to-back-to-back Southland Conference Regular Season Championship teams from 2004-06 who lost an eight-month battle with leukemia in 2008.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
