Roadrunners announce Conference USA schedule on Wednesday
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA will play 18 Conference USA contests in 2014-15, including nine games at the Convocation Center, head men’s basketball coach Brooks Thompson announced on Wednesday.
The Roadrunners will play home-and-home tilts with Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss and UTEP, while they will face the other eight league members once during the slate. In all, the squad will play eight matchups against teams that won at least 20 games a season ago.
“We’re very excited for our second season as a member of Conference USA,” Thompson said. “Our players and staff got a good feel for the league last year and we are looking forward to the competition again this season. It will be exciting for our players and fans to play home-and-homes against some of the teams in our region.”
UTSA will open its second season in the conference on Jan. 2 when it travels to Houston for a matchup with Rice before a contest at North Texas two days later. The Birds then return to the Convocation Center for three consecutive games against Southern Miss (Jan. 8), Louisiana Tech (Jan. 10) and UTEP (Jan. 17) and then will make inaugural trips to Marshall (Jan. 22) and Western Kentucky (Jan. 24).
Other home games on the slate include Middle Tennessee (Jan. 29), UAB (Jan. 31), Old Dominion (Feb. 12), Charlotte (Feb. 14), Rice (March 5) and North Texas (March 7).
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners will take to the road for tilts against FIU (Feb. 5), Florida Atlantic (Feb. 7), UTEP (Feb. 21), Southern Miss (Feb. 26) and Louisiana Tech (Feb. 28).
The league’s top 12 teams will vie for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at the C-USA Tournament, which will be held March 11-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
UTSA's non-conference slate will be announced later this fall.
