SAN ANTONIO — Jordan Sims led four Roadrunners in double figures with 16 points and UTSA used an 18-2 run late in the first half to race past Southeastern Oklahoma State, 80-60, in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

Sims connected on 4-of-8 from behind the 3-point line and the 6-foot-4 senior was 5-for-9 from the floor overall to help the Roadrunners improve to 8-0 in exhibition games under eighth-year head coach Brooks Thompson.

Keon Lewis and Hyjii Thomas added 14 points apiece and Edrico McGregor pitched in a dozen and a team-high five rebounds. Lewis, a junior transfer from North Idaho College, knocked down 10-of-14 free throws and dished out three assists, while Thomas was 6-for-10 from the floor to go along with a pair of steals.

Trailing 26-19 with just under five minutes to play until intermission, Sims kick-started the decisive run with a pair of 3-pointers to pull the Roadrunners to within one. After a Sims layup gave the home team the lead, Tyler Wood knocked down a trey from the left wing and then converted a 3-point play with 38.1 seconds on the clock to push the advantage to seven at 35-28. Devon Agusi came up with a steal and a layup to cap the run before a late Savage Storm basket provided the 37-30 halftime margin.

UTSA extended its lead to 12 early in the second half on a short hook shot by McGregor that followed a three from James Williams to make it 44-32.

Southeastern Oklahoma State cut the deficit to six on a jumper by Anton Cook at the 17:04 mark, but it was all UTSA from there.

The Roadrunners led by as many as 25 down the stretch when Agusi, who posted five assists in 23 minutes, found Thomas on a fast-break alley-oop dunk to make it 78-53 with 2:23 remaining.

Urald King led the Savage Storm with 16 points and Darrius Harris added nine and a game-high six rebounds.

UTSA will open the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9, against Northern Arizona. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
