UTSA to face San Jose State in first round of Western Athletic Conference Tournament
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will be the No. 9 seed for next week's Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., and the Roadrunners (8-21, 3-14 WAC) will face eighth-seeded San Jose State (9-19, 3-14 WAC) at 10:30 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday, March 12, in the first round at Orleans Arena.
The Roadrunners and Spartans were scheduled to play for the second time this season on Thursday night, but a leaky roof at The Event Center in San Jose forced the cancellation of the contest.
San Jose State leads the all-time series, 2-1, including an 80-67 victory on New Year's Eve in San Antonio. UTSA defeated the Spartans, 72-63, on Nov. 30, 2010, at the Convocation Center in the inaugural meeting, while San Jose State returned the favor with a 72-66 home victory one year later. The two teams never have met on a neutral court.
Tuesday's contest can be heard live in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760 AM or on your mobile device with the free iHeartRadio app. An audio stream also will be available at goUTSA.com. The WAC will offer a video stream (subscription required) at WACports.com.
The winner will advance to face WAC Regular Season Co-Champion Louisiana Tech (26-5) at 8 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, March 14, in the quarterfinal round.
The tournament semifinals are slated for 8 and 10:30 p.m. (CT) on Friday, March 15, followed by the championship game at 10 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, March 16.
