SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men’s basketball coach Brooks Thompson announced Tuesday that Phillip Jones (Freeport, Bahamas/Piney Woods HS) has joined the program as a scholarship student-athlete and Devon Agusi (Dallas, Texas/White HS/Trinity Valley CC) and Jeremy Hines (Bellaire, Texas/Bellaire HS) have made the squad as walk-ons for the 2012-13 season.

Honorable mention all-state performer as a senior at Piney Woods (Miss.) High School … also earned District MVP and all-metro accolades after averaging 27 points, 12 rebounds and three assists per game in 2011-12 … participated in the 2011 Mississippi North vs. South All-Star Game … helped lead the Tornadoes to the Class 2A state championship as a junior … also a standout in the horizontal jumps for the track & field squad where he was a two-time state triple jump champion and ran anchor for the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
Devon Agusi

Played in 22 games as a sophomore at Trinity Valley Community College in 2011-12 … registered 27 points, 12 rebounds, 34 assists and nine steals and shot 67 percent from behind the 3-point line and 85 percent at the free-throw line … helped the Cardinals to a 21-9 record and runner-up finish in the Region XIV North Zone with a 14-5 mark … played in nine games as a freshman at Tarleton State in 2009-10 … two-time all-district performer at W.T. White High School … tabbed the district’s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior and co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior … averaged a team-high 18 points, 3.6 rebounds and two assists per game as a senior.
Jeremy Hines

Three-year letterwinner at Bellaire High School for head coach Bruce Glover … averaged 10 points, five assists and four rebounds per game during his career … posted eight points, three rebounds and three assists per contest as a senior in 2009-10 … helped the Cardinals to a 35-2 record, the district title, a Region III-5A Final appearance and a top-25 national ranking during his final campaign … team also advanced to the playoffs in his junior campaign.
