SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men’s basketball coach Brooks Thompson unveiled his program's 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday. The ledger will see the Roadrunners face nine teams that made the postseason last year and a full slate of 18 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) games.

“We’re really excited about the challenges this schedule presents,” Thompson said. “The non-conference portion again will allow us to face several quality teams, and we will have the opportunity to go out on the road and learn how to win. Our scheduling philosophy has always been to prepare our team to compete for the conference championship and reach postseason play, and this year’s schedule certainly does that.”

The Roadrunners will host Southeastern Oklahoma State on Nov. 1 in an exhibition contest before officially tipping off the campaign at the Liberty Tax Classic in Norfolk, Va., where they will face Morgan State, Holy Cross and tournament host Old Dominion, which advanced to the quarterfinal round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). The three-day event begins on Nov. 9.

UTSA returns to the Alamo City to host Cameron on Nov. 13 and USC Upstate four days later before embarking on a six-game road swing that will see them play games in six different states and four different time zones.

The Birds will battle 2012 NCAA Tournament participant BYU (Nov. 21), 2012 NIT quarterfinalist Oregon (Nov. 29), CSU Bakersfield (Dec. 1), NIT participant Mississippi State (Dec. 4), USC Upstate (Dec. 8) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Dec. 21) during the month-long stretch of road dates.

The Roadrunners open their first and only season in the WAC by hosting 2012 CIT Runner-Up Utah State and San Jose State on Dec. 29 and 31, respectively. They then face defending WAC Tournament Champion New Mexico State on Jan. 3 and fellow league newcomer Denver three days later before welcoming UT Arlington (Jan. 10), Louisiana Tech (Jan. 12) and I-35 rival Texas State (Jan. 19) to the Convocation Center.

UTSA’s other home WAC contests include Denver (Jan. 31), New Mexico State (Feb. 2), Idaho (Feb. 28) and Seattle (March 2) and it also hosts CSU Bakersfield, which participated in last season’s CIT, on Feb. 12 and an opponent to be named later as part of the Sears BracketBusters on Feb. 22 or 23.

The Roadrunners also hit the road for league matchups at Seattle (Jan. 24), Idaho (Jan. 26), Louisiana Tech (Feb. 7), UT Arlington (Feb. 9), Texas State (Feb. 16), San Jose State (March 7) and Utah State (March 9).

All 10 teams will square off for the league’s automatic NCAA berth at the WAC Tournament from March 12-16 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Season tickets are on sale now by phone at (210) 458-UTSA (8872).
