IRVING — Tomas Stillman was named Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and he joined teammate Joel Rubio on the all-conference team, the league office announced on Thursday.

Stillman earned Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference accolades in singles and doubles in a vote by the head coaches. He registered a 21-2 singles record in his first year with UTSA, including a 13-1 mark at No. 2 and 8-1 ledger at No. 4. The Harlingen native won his last eight and 20 of his last 21 finished matches, 18 in straight sets. Stillman, who transferred from Toledo, posted a perfect 6-0 record against Conference USA opponents, including a three-set decision against Adam Gustafsson to help the Roadrunners pull out a 4-3 road win at Rice on April 3. He was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week on March 11 after posting singles and doubles victories against UT Arlington and New Mexico State.

Rubio, a native of Arnedo, Spain, teamed with Stillman to collect second-team All-Conference USA honors in doubles. The duo registered a 15-7 record, including a perfect 7-0 mark at No. 2. They debuted at No. 16 in the ITA National Doubles Rankings, the highest ranking in program history, and remained nationally ranked through April 15. The pair upended No. 11 Texas A&M's 20th-ranked doubles team of Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo, 6-4, on Jan. 25 as part of a 10-match winning streak to start the season. Rubio and Stillman also cruised to an 8-2 win against the No. 49-ranked tandem of Carlos Arbiza and Javier Perez of UT Arlington on March 7.
