Roadrunners to begin Conference USA play on Wednesday night against Tulsa
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s basketball team will make its Conference USA debut on Wednesday when it hosts Tulsa in a 7 p.m. contest at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners enter conference play having won seven conseucitve games following Sunday’s victory against Abilene Christian. It is the longest non-conference winning streak for UTSA since a nine-gamer that spanned two seasons from 2006-07 to 2007-08 and is the longest single season non-conference streak since another seven-game run during the 1997-98 campaign.
Kamra King has been the steadying force for first-year head coach Luby Lichonczak as the junior from Norman, Okla. enters conference play as the 12th leading scorer in C-USA at 15.8 per contest. Senior point guard Miki Turner has been a constant on both ends of the court averaging 9.5 points per game. The veteran duo has been especially effective late in games as King has connected on 16-of-20 (80 percent) free throw attempts and Turner has gone 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) in the final two minutes of regulation.
Tulsa (6-5) comes to the Alamo City having won two straight contests including last Saturday’s 84-70 victory over Valparaiso. Sophomore forward Ashley Clark leads the Golden Hurricane averaging 14.1 points per game and 6.4 rebounds.
