SAN ANTONIO — Kamra King had 23 points, including five in overtime as UTSA came back from a 10-point first half deficit to defeat Norfolk State, 72-63, in overtime on the second day of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.

King converted 5-of-11 shots from behind the arc and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Roadrunners (4-4) in scoring for the fifth time in eight games. Miki Turner netted 16 points to join King as the only Roadrunners in double figures.

Rachel Gordon had a team-high 15 points and 14 rebounds for Norfolk State (2-4)

The Roadrunners got eight points each from King and Turner in the opening half that saw UTSA trail by as many as 10 points.

Norfolk State took advantage of a 23-13 rebounding edge and a 7-for-24 (29.2 percent) field goal shooting performance from the Roadrunners to take a 31-25 lead into halftime.

A night after grabbing 26 rebounds in a loss to UTPA, Gordon paced the Spartans first half effort with 11 points and nine boards and was vital in Norfolk State claiming a 16-8 edge in points in the paint.

UTSA was able to narrow the halftime margin with a 4-0 spurt over the half’s final 59 seconds getting a layup from Turner and a pair of free throws from Alana Heard.

Heard gave UTSA its first lead of the game, 48-47, at the 6:00 mark of the second half with a driving layup. The two teams would battle the rest of the way with the Roadrunners pulling ahead, 58-56, on Miki Turner’s layup with 42-seconds to play. However, the Spartans found their answer when Ebony Brown’s jumper with two seconds sent the game to overtime.

It was all Roadrunners in the extra period with King netting five points to secure the comeback victory.

UTSA will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 5, when it travels south to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-2).
