SAN ANTONIO — UTSA returns to action on Friday morning when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA South Central Regional. The men's 10,000-meter race is scheduled to begin 12:15 p.m. at Agri Park and schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field.
The Roadrunners, who are coming off a sixth-place performance at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships, will face 22 teams (Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, Central Arkansas, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tulane, UALR and UT Arlington) in the race that precedes the NCAA Championships.
Senior Daniel Balbotnin raced to second-team All-WAC honors two weeks ago with an 11th-place finish in Ruston, La. Junior Kyle Hawley just missed all-conference accolades with his 15th-place performance (25:07.49), while sophomore Mike Medrano finished 31st (25:34.46) and did not pace the team for the first time this fall.
The top two teams, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing squad, will advance to the national meet, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, in Louisville, Ky.
