SAN ANTONIO — Marijeta Runjic, an outside hitter from Trogir, Croatia, and Megan Slan, the District 25-4A Defensive Player of the Year from Leander (Texas) High School, have signed National Letters of Intent to join the UTSA volleyball program in Fall 2014, head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff announced on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4 Runjic comes to UTSA with considerable accolades from her years spent with the Croatian national teams. Runjic began her career with the youth national team in 2010 before joining the junior team in 2011. In 2013, Runjic was the only player to play with both the junior and senior national teams. She was voted the best outside hitter of the Cadet National Championship and was named best outside hitter of the Youth Memorial Tournament two times. She also was voted best scorer of the Youth National Championship and the MEVZA 2011 Youth Championship.
“Marijeta is going to add size and power to our roster," Neugebauer-Groff said. "She brings a ton of experience playing at the level she plays in her country and has a very good volleyball IQ.
Slan is a four-year starter and letterwinner who guided her team to the regional playoffs in 2013 while collecting Defensive Player of the Year honors. During the 2012 season, she led her team in blocks and kills and was named to the UIL's All-Class 4A team.
“Megan is going to add a tremendous amount of athleticism in the middle position,“ Neugebauer-Groff said. “She is a good jumper with a quick arm swing but also has incredible blocking skills.”
"We are so excited about this class and the dynamics they will add to our roster.”
