SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Houston Baptist at the Convocation Center. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., as the two team will square off for the second time in eight days.
The Roadrunners (7-4) are coming off Saturday's four-set victory against San Jose State, which was the first-ever Western Athletic Conference triumph in UTSA Athletics history. The Birds received another strong effort from junior outside hitter McKenzie Adams, who racked up 24 kills and 14 digs to go along with a career-high three service aces.
Adams leads UTSA in points (4.41) and kills (3.88) per set and ranks second with 3.74 digs per frame. Meanwhile, junior setter Brandy Huskey leads the club with eight double-doubles. She collected a pair last week, including a 42-assist, 15-dig performance against the Spartans.
The Huskies (8-7) have dropped three consecutive matches since sweeping the Roadrunners a week ago. HBU was swept by Cal State Northridge in its final match at last weekend's Rice Mizuno Invitational.
Heather Leaverton leads the Huskies with 3.42 kills per set, while Victoria Weatherly is handing out 11.69 assists per panel. Houston Baptist boasts a strong back line with Jasmine Casey (4.54 dps), Leaverton (3.72 dps) and Esther Longoria (3.54 dps) leading the way.
Tuesday's match marks the sixth all-time meeting between the two clubs and second this season. UTSA holds a 3-2 advantage in the series, but Houston Baptist has won the last two outings.
