SAN ANTONIO — Senior Kelsey Jewasko and redshirt junior Kelsey Schwirtlich earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District VII honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.

Jewasko, who maintains a 3.94 GPA in interdisciplinary studies, is the defensive catalyst for the Roadrunners along the back row. A two-time Southland Conference Libero of the Year, she ranks 23rd in the nation with 5.4 digs per set and has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

The San Antonio native also is one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. She has been named to the Southland's Commissioner's Honor Roll three times, first-team academic All-Southland twice and was recognized as UTSA's outstanding female student-athlete by being one of 24 selected as 2010-11 Southland Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Schwirtlich, who owns a 3.91 GPA in mechanical engineering, guides the UTSA offense. The Corpus Christi native ranks first in the Southland (45th NCAA) with 10.87 assists per set. Earlier this season, the 6-foot setter became the program's all-time leader in assists for the 25-point rally scoring era (2008-present). Last year, she was named first-team All-Southland and selected to the league's All-Tournament team.

In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Schwirtlich has been named to the Southland's Commissioner's Honor Roll three times and was a 2010 first-team academic All-Southland selection.

The 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball teams, selected by CoSIDA members, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom. The squads are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division includes NCAA Division I participants and first-team honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
