SAN MARCOS — Texas State ended UTSA's 12-match winning streak with a 25-10, 25-10, 22-25, 25-20 victory on Thursday night at Strahan Coliseum.

The Roadrunners (19-10, 13-2 SLC) struggled offensively, hitting only .152 on the night. Senior Kendra Rowland and sophomore Whitney Walls each tallied 13 kills. UTSA picked up 27 assists from redshirt sophomore Kelsey Schwirtlich and junior Kelsey Jewasko collected 19 digs.

Texas State (18-11, 11-4 SLC), which handed the Roadrunners their last loss on Sept. 25, posted a .405 hitting percentage. AJ Watlington (18 kills/11 digs) and Mo Middleton (14 kills/17 digs) each recorded double-doubles to pace the Bobcats.

The Birds struggled from the start, falling behind 17-6 in the opening frame. Texas State went on an 8-3 run from there to end the set. UTSA managed only six kills and hit -.059 with eight errors.

The second stanza was similar to the opener, as the Bobcats raced out to a 7-1 advantage. The Roadrunners managed to keep it within nine (18-9) before a 7-1 run put the Bobcats up 2-0 at intermission.

UTSA came out swinging following the break, hitting at a .349 clip, which included eight winners from Walls. A 3-1 spurt by the Birds put distance between the two clubs (23-21) late in the frame. Amber Calhoun split the Roadrunners' defense to pull Texas State within one at 23-22, but back-to-back winners from Walls pulled UTSA within one.

The Bobcats staved off a late run by the Roadrunners in the fourth set to put an end to the win streak. UTSA mustered an 8-4 run to pull within three at 21-18, but Texas State won four of the next six points to pick up the victory.

The Roadrunners will conclude the regular season on Saturday at UT Arlington (15-14, 9-6 SLC). First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Texas Hall.
