SAN ANTONIO — Senior Kendra Rowland registered her 12th double-double of the season and helped lead UTSA to its 11th consecutive win in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 decision against Sam Houston State on Thursday night.

Rowland racked up a match-high 16 winners in addition to 16 digs to pace UTSA (18-9, 12-1 SLC). Redshirt sophomore setter Kelsey Schwirtlich handed out 35 assists, while junior Kelsey Jewasko collected 23 digs to lead all players.

Sam Houston State (12-16, 6-7 SLC), which was limited to a .038 hitting percentage, had four players record double-digit digs. Kaylee Hawkins led the Bearkats with 15, followed by Kym Loving (14), Tayler Gray (11) and Carli Kolbe (10).

The Roadrunners jumped out a 16-6 lead in the first frame. The advantage swelled to a dozen (21-9) before Sam Houston State rallied to take four of the next five points. However, the Birds took the next two with back-to-back attack errors by the Bearkats. Sam Houston State managed another point before Rowland buried her sixth winner to take the set, 25-14. UTSA limited the Bearkats to a -.021 hitting percentage, while posting a .295 attack percentage of its own.

Tied at eight in the second set, UTSA used a 7-3 run to take a four-point advantage (15-11). The Birds then grabbed two of the next three points to force Sam Houston State into a timeout. UTSA increased its lead to six (23-17) from there, but after two Bearkat points, the Roadrunners closed out the set on a winner by sophomore Andee Josserand.

UTSA needed to rally in the third stanza after Sam Houston State jumped out to an 11-9 lead. However, the Roadrunners soared back with three consecutive points to claim a 12-11 advantage. With the Bearkats clinging to a 16-15 lead, back-to-back errant attacks by Sam Houston gave the Roadrunners the lead for good. UTSA then went on a 6-2 run to push its lead to seven. Sam Houston State reeled off the next five points, but Rowland ended the match with a cross-court winner.

The Roadrunners, which swept the season series from Sam Houston State for the first time in six years (2004), will wrap up its home campaign against Stephen F. Austin (11-19, 4-9 SLC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday. UTSA will honor its four seniors — Briana Mason, Evelyn Pineda, Rowland and Megan Schauffele — in a preame ceremony.
