UTSA inks three to National Letters of Intent

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA head volleyball coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff announced Tuesday that Tessa Dahnert (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park HS), Kasey Kiefer (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) and Daniella Villarreal (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels HS) have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Roadrunners for the upcoming 2013 season.

"We're very excited about this class," Neugebauer-Groff said. "With our move into Conference USA next fall, we needed to add depth and athleticism. I feel like we addressed those needs and I am looking forward to having this class join our program this fall."

The three incoming freshmen join Jessica Waldrip, who enrolled in January after graduating early from New Braunfels (Texas) High School.

Below are bios of the three signees.

Tessa Dahnert, 6-0, Middle Hitter
Cedar Park, Texas (Cedar Park HS)

· Three-year letterwinner and two-year starter
· Two-time all-district selection, including first-team in 2012
· Guided team to state tournament semifinals last fall
· Named to the Hill Country News Dazzling Dozen
· Earned academic all-state honors as a senior and twice garnered academic all-district laurels
· Played with Austin Juniors club team

Kasey Kiefer, 6-0, Outside Hitter
Tempe, Ariz. (Corona del Sol HS)

· Four-year letterwinner
· Three-time Arizona Division I honorable mention all-state and All-Tempe pick
· Led team in kills and kills per set in her senior and sophomore seasons
· Also named team's Most Valuable Player, first-team all-section and earned All-Tempe honors in 2012
· Three-time Westood Tournament of Champions all-tournament team selection
· Played with Aspire Volleyball Club

Daniella Villarreal, 5-5, Defensive Specialist
New Braunfels, Texas (New Braunfels HS)

· Four-year letterwinner
· Guided team to 2012 UIL Class 5A championship match
· Named to the Class 5A All-Tournament Team
· Earned San Antonio Express-News Area Super Team accolades
· Selected as an alternate for the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game
· Three-time first-team all-district honoree
· 2012 All-Texas Special Recognition
· 2012 Class 5A Academic All-State honoree
· Four-time academic all-district selection
