SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action on Friday night when it travels to Houston for a 7 p.m. match.
The Roadrunners (5-2), who are off to their best start since 1992, are riding a three-match winning streak after topping Belmont twice and UTEP at last weekend's UTSA Classic.
Senior middle hitter Brittney Malloy amassed 39 kills (2.6 kps) en route to a .437 hitting percentage in 71 swings in last week's three triumphs. She also has led the team with 19 total blocks (1.27 bps) in the last four outings. The San Antonio native is hitting .403 (third WAC) and averaging of 1.15 blocks per set (ninth WAC).
Meanwhile, freshman middle hitter Kylie Schott ranks second in the Western Athletic Conference with a .411 hitting percentage and junior setter Brandy Huskey sits second in the league with 10.46 assists per stanza.
The Cougars (1-5) dropped their first five contests of the fall before topping Liscomb in four sets last Saturday. Katie Norris and Chandace Tryon lead the Houston offense with 4.04 and 3.35 kills per frame, respectively. Meanwhile, Natalie Keck is the club's top defender with 3.78 digs per panel.
Friday will mark the sixth all-time matchup between the two teams with the Cougars holding a 4-1 lead in the series. Houston has won the last three meetings and UTSA's lone victory was a 3-1 decision on Nov. 24, 2000, in the Bayou City.
