UTSA women win five matches at Saturday's Texas State Play Date

SAN MARCOS — UTSA won a total of five matches (three singles/two doubles) at Saturday's Texas State Play Date.

Nicole Karaklis defeated Prairie View A&M's Taylor LeFridge in the opening round of singles play by scores of 6-3, 2-6 and 6-3.

Meanwhile, Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Alena Shichkova both were victorious in their second outing of the day.

Garcia-Diaz got past Texas-Pan American's Reegan Greenwood in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) and Shichkova went the distance against Texas State's Berenice Van den Bergh (4-6, 6-0, 6-1).

Garcia-Diaz and Shichkova paired up for a win in their lone doubles match, a 6-2 triumph against Prairie View A&M's Christine Gwodog and Sydney Thomas. Karaklis teamed up with Prairie View's Maria Lackey for a 6-3 victory against Pippa Carr and Monica Pieratt of the host school.

The Roadrunners will conclude their fall schedule in two weeks at the Longhorns Invitational The weekend tournament is scheduled to begin on Nov. 8.
