SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to the courts this week with three home matches, including a pair against ranked opponents.
The Roadrunners will host No. 34 Rice at 1 p.m. on Thursday, 75th-ranked Louisiana-Monroe at 11 a.m. a day later and Sam Houston State at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
UTSA (4-3) has lost two of its last three outings, including a 6-1 setback at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Friday. Jacobea Junger collected the lone point for the Birds after battling through a three-set match at the top singles spot.
Isabelle Jonsson leads the Roadrunners with a 6-1 record at No. 2 singles, while the pairing of Junger and Daniela Garcia-Diaz are 4-2 at No. 2 doubles.
The Owls (6-4) have won three of their last four matches, including a pair of victories against No. 54 LSU and 57th-ranked Tulane.
Rice boasts a pair of the top-ranked singles players in the country in Natalie Beazant (71st) and Dominique Harmath (80th). Beazant is 6-3 at the top spot, while Harmath sports an 8-2 overall ledger in singles action, including a 7-2 mark at the second position.
The Warhawks entered the ITA rankings this week after starting the year with a 4-0 record. Louisiana-Monroe has logged wins against Alcorn State, Central Arkansas, Jackson State and McNeese State this spring.
Medy Blankvoort, Petra Horakova, Justyna Krol and Silvia Tumova all are unbeaten in four singles matches, while each of the six combinations used in doubles play are still undefeated.
The Bearkats (4-4) have won four of their last five matches, all at home, including back-to-back sweeps of Incarnate Word and McMurry.
Tanya Postnikova is 7-1 at No. 5 singles for Sam Houston State and Imke Jagau and Kayla Stevenson own a 5-2 record at No. 3 doubles.
