SAN MARCOS — Texas State rolled to a 5-2 victory against UTSA in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.

The Roadrunners (3-2, 0-1 WAC) fell behind after dropping the doubles point.

The Bobcats (3-1, 1-0 WAC) won the matchups at the first and second positions for an early 1-0 advantage.

Texas State then netted wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles to take a 3-0 lead.

UTSA picked up its first point after Irene Gandara Gonzalez knocked off Berenice Van den Bergh in straight sets (6-1, 7-5), but the Bobcats recovered at the top spot when Jessica Kahts handed Jacobea Junger her first loss of the spring, 6-4, 6-4, which clinched the victory.

Isabelle Jonsson picked up the Roadrunners' other point of the day with a straight-sets win at second singles to remain unbeaten this season.

UTSA will host former Southland Conference foe Northwestern State (2-2) in a non-conference match on Sunday. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
