SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will host a pair of crucial Southland Conference home matches this weekend. The Roadrunners will match up with Lamar at 11 a.m. on Saturday and McNeese State at the same time the following day.
The Roadrunners (8-11, 3-6 SLC), who are coming off a 4-3 win against Southeastern Louisiana on Monday, are looking to hold on to the No. 8 seed in this month's Southland Tournament.
Sophomore Isabelle Jonsson has won three consecutive singles matches and owns a team-best 12-7 record. Meanwhile, the Jonsson and senior Stefanie Peana make up the squad's top doubles team, as they have collected nine victories at top position.
The Lady Cardinals (11-8, 6-3 SLC) have won five straight tilts, three of which have come against league opponents. Alessandra Pennesi leads the team with a 14-5 mark in singles play, including an 8-1 mark against Southland competition. Alicia Porte and Carolina Salas have paired up to post an 8-4 overall record at No. 1 doubles.
The Cowgirls (3-14, 1-8 SLC) have dropped four of their last five matches, including a 6-1 setback at Northwestern State last Saturday. Diana Pirciu has won a team-high seven singles contests, including her last two outings, while Pirciu and Andreea Nenu have combined to post a 5-10 mark in doubles matches.
