SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue Southland Conference play this weekend when it hosts UT Arlington and Texas State. The Roadrunners and Mavericks will square off at 11 a.m. on Saturday and they will match up with the Bobcats at 1 p.m. the following day.
UTSA (7-7, 2-2 SLC) is looking to get back to its winning ways after dropping its last three outings. The Birds dropped back-to-back 5-2 decisions to UMBC and New Mexico State last week.
Senior Micaela Silva won both of her singles matches last week and has netted six victories this spring. Meanwhile, sophomore Isabelle Jonsson and freshman Irene Gandara Gonzalez are tied for the team lead with an 8-3 mark in doubles play. The pairings of senior Stephanie Peana and Jonsson and juniors Natalie Hand and Kavya Menon each have picked up seven victories.
UT Arlington (8-7, 4-2 SLC) enters Saturday's contest having lost its last three matches, including a 4-3 setback on Wednesday at Northwestern State. Verena Scott leads the Mavericks' singles contingent with a 10-4 mark this spring, while the duo of Giada D'ortona and Natalia Mayuk are 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Texas State (10-3, 5-0 SLC), which is one of two unbeaten teams in league play, has dropped two of its last three contests, including a 4-3 loss against Houston last Sunday. The Bobcats are led in singles action by Jessica Kahts, who is 10-3 this season. Meanwhile, Rachel Baldree and Mariana Perez are 10-1 at No. 3 doubles.
