SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will play its final match of the season on Thursday against Nicholls in Beaumont. Originally scheduled for March 5, the contest was postponed due to inclement weather and now will be played at 11 a.m. at Lamar’s Thompson Family Tennis Facility.
The Roadrunners (5-12, 2-8 SLC) split a pair of home outings last weekend. UTSA defeated Sam Houston State, 4-3, on Saturday before falling to Stephen F. Austin 6-1 the following day.
Senior Caroline Dedering and junior Micaela Silva lead the Birds with seven singles wins apiece, while Dedering's four Soutland Conference triumphs pace the squad. Sophomores Mariel Maffezzolli and Kavya Menon form UTSA's most successful doubles tandem with four victories.
Meanwhile, the Colonels (10-11, 3-7 SLC) were shut out in back-to-back matches last weekend against Southland Conference Regular Season Champion UT Arlington and Texas State. Seniors Natalia Zamora and Sumana Kalyanasundaram both have a team-best 11 singles wins this season, while Zamora has teamed up with senior Florina Nosca for eight doubles triumphs.
