SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s tennis team will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when it faces Lamar at 11 a.m. on Saturday and McNeese State at the same time the next day.
The Roadrunners (4-6, 1-3 SLC) is coming off a 7-0 setback at No. 59 UT Arlington last Sunday, which was their third consecutive loss and sixth in the last seven outings overall. Junior Micaela Silva leads UTSA with six singles victories this spring.
The Lady Cardinals (12-2, 3-1 SLC) enter Saturday's contest following a 6-1 victory against Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday. The senior tandem of Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi holds a 12-1 record at No. 1 doubles, while Gutierrez and Harbuzi both are 13-1 at the top two singles spots. Senior Diana Mendez leads Lamar with a perfect 13-0 ledger in singles play.
Meanwhile, the Cowgirls (3-7, 0-5 SLC) have yet to collect a Southland victory this season and they are coming off a 7-0 whitewashing from Lamar on March 19. Sophomore Iiona Serchenko leads the team with seven victories at the No. 1 singles slot, while juniors Kwynn Biggs and Tea Tvrtkovic both own 5-5 marks.
