SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's tennis team will begin a four-match home stand this weekend with contests against Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas and Northwestern State. The Roadrunners will take a step out of Southland Conference play on Friday against the Wildcats before hosting the Sugar Bears and Lady Demons the following two days.
UTSA (3-4, 0-1 SLC) is coming off a league-opening loss against Southeastern Louisiana last Sunday. The Roadrunners dropped a 5-2 decision in Baton Rouge with senior Caroline Dedering and freshman Isabelle Jonsson each winning their singles matches.
Abilene Christian (9-3) enters Friday's tilt as the sixth-ranked club in Division II. The Wildcats have won eight consecutive matches, including three at last weekend's ACU March Invite.
Central Arkansas (0-9, 0-4 SLC) still is in search of its first victory this spring. The Sugar Bears were shut out in back-to-back league contests last weekend by No. 63 UT Arlington and Texas State. Alex Rios leads the team with a half dozen singles triumphs.
Meanwhile, Northwestern State (6-2, 1-1 SLC) will play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday before traveling to the Alamo City. Andrea Nedorostova and Martina Rubesova each have recorded impressive 7-1 marks in singles play to pace the Lady Demons.
