Sam Houston State edges UTSA on Tuesday night, 2-1
SAN ANTONIO — Sam Houston State edged UTSA, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field.
The Bearkats (28-17), who had six hits, scored a run in the first and another in the sixth and held on for the one-run victory.
The Roadrunners (24-20) were limited to five hits and one run by three Sam Houston State pitchers.
Cody Dickson (7-4) started the contest and picked up the win after allowing just two hits in five innings of work. Jason Simms earned his seventh save of the year after yielding only an infield single in the ninth.
UTSA scored its lone run off reliever Logan Boyd, who allowed a solo home run to Tony Ramirez in the seventh.
Kevin Miller paced the Bearkats with a 2-for-4 performance, which included a solo homer in the sixth.
Ramirez was 1-for-3 with his third round-tripper of the campaign for the Birds.
Meanwhile, starter Matt Sims (3-1) gave up a run on a pair of hits in his two panels.
UTSA will continue Western Athletic Conference play this weekend when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State (21-23, 11-7 WAC) in a three-game series. The set opens at 6 p.m. on Friday.
